A New Direction- To Stephen

January 2014 - Mom, Stephen & Marilyn
Arron House Los Angeles.
about 19" X 26"

A number of years ago I started working  with a process I'd call a planographic transfer.  It closely mimics lithography except it is almost impossible to pull more than one print.

This print and the following two are all printed using the transfer process. These prints will be then hand colored then varnished. So they're not quite finished yet.

These prints represent an attempt to bridge the years of not knowing my twin brother. He was institutionalized when he was three. The term in the 50's was Warehoused. Stephen now lives in a group home with constant care and attention.

The majority of the images I have of Stephen are from our weekly Skype conversations.

Because Stephen doesn't talk and and has really bad vision, I sometimes wonder why I do this. Then sometimes I see a smile, I'm am told of a tear welling up. Then I know.

I can only guess what he is feeling or thinks.

These images are a homage to all of the years of not knowing my other half.

Each print takes about 3 hours to make and this gives me time to think about and honor my brother.
