bumping heads together.   Thinking about images in the midst of global meltdown. I will keep smashing images together in the hope of understanding why I do this. Lucky Dragon-2015 Some time ago I created a piece for Hugh Merrill, I am not sure where the piece ended up. It was a monoprint, based on a series of prints he did called "The Lucky Dragon".  I woke up this morning and remembered the print, a built image.  Hong Kong Digital Proof 2019  Images based on building, compiling collaging and mixing.

Micky Rats Cheapo Club button  Or Discipleship in action Sometime around 1978-9, I was living in Bellingham Washington. I moved there after leaving Vancouver Canada. Which was the result of a failed attempt at staying in Vancouver and attending the Emily Carr College of Art.   There was this cafe called the Old Town Cafe ,  It was known for its good inexpensive food and the staff was friendly.  I rented an art studio down the street so the Cafe was a great place to get a meal and a bottomless cup of coffee. I got to know the owner, Chuck, who use to tell everyone that God owned the place he just managed it.  there were bibles on the tables, propped against the hot sauce and ketchup. Should anyone be a bit down on their luck a meal was provided, perhaps in exchange for washing dishes, or some sort of trade.  One day chuck said to me  "David, the Lord told me to make a place for you here. I don't know-how, we don't need any...

 A button from the Women's Museum in the Arts, a crudely cut Tiki and a hanging Jade weight. Three occasions, three moments.  Gifts that retain some sort of importance, not so much from who presented them, (I can't remember how I got these things.) but that I still have them in my possession. The Jade weight is meant to be hung. It was made with care and must represent something. The Tiki, a piece of stone, cut with the front image of a simplified face, and three groves cut above the brow. It's paired with a cloisonne button from the National Museum of Women in the Arts, it's paired with the Tiki.  The head doesn't look Polynesian, Aztec, Mayan or a stylized head from any other ancient culture.   Something that was purchased at an airport before the return trip home? objects
